We chat to our Sydney team about starting up the agency during the pandemic, being the ‘new kid on the block’ agency, and what motivates them to keep going…
Meet our beloved Suzannah King and Emily Bone.

What was it like to start up a business during a pandemic, Suzannah?
Starting EdenMarsh Sydney back in Feb 2020 was such an exciting opportunity for me and a privilege to work again with Sam after many years and launch her recruitment business to the Oz market. We had a great response from candidates and clients seeking to support the ‘new kid on the block’ recruiter, and we pretty much hit the ground running. Then Covid came to town…
Managing the new business through the pandemic was a massive learning curve for me; it taught me the skill of resilience and patience, also adapting to the new way of doing recruitment from face-to-face to then moving online. I also gained comfort and encouragement from the London team, who were also navigating this unstable market, so working in tandem with them was a significant source of support to me.
My biggest driver through that time was staying connected and being ‘available’ to as many candidates as possible as so many were losing their jobs. The fear of the unknown brought us all together, both candidates and clients.
Thankfully the freelance side of our business picked up, and slowly the green shoots of new opportunities with clients came through. After putting down those strong foundations in an impossible market, seeing the business thrive now makes me feel very proud!

How do you and Emily work together as a team?
Coffee, laughter and music is how we roll in the Sydney team! We motivate one another on individual endeavours and combine our skills and enthusiasm to become a force to be reckoned with, aka the dream team! We bounce off each other in the office and make the magic happen 😊
“Small but gutsy”, and our ethos is working to maintain and nurture genuine connections with clients and candidates. That’s what it’s about — the people. The relationships.
How do you treat your client relationships?
We are fortunate to work with a great scope of Sydney and Melbourne based clients with a blend of integrated advertising, digital, design and branding agencies from small to larger studios. Our clients leave meetings with us with a big smile on their faces because we will have spoken business but also had a good laugh.
We think our clients love that we treat them like humans. Yes, they are busy, successful business people, but they are also human beings. And we understand that; we relate to that. And we have worked hard to gain the trust and loyalty of our clients, working with some great studios such as Enigma, Six Black Pens, Yourstudio, The Being Group, Metropolis, Hulsbosch and many more.

What it’s like working for EdenMarsh?
It’s a very supportive culture that is felt across the miles from London to Sydney. Very much about being fair, having the space to develop at your own pace and encouraging each other through the highs and lows of working in our industry and celebrating our achievements along the way!
We all share the same fundamental codes in recruitment – relationship being the bedrock to all we do, with our MD Sam leading by example.
What do you love about being in creative recruitment?
It’s a great sector to be in as we have such a variety of roles we look after with no one role being the same. It’s an evolving industry too, with new job creations as well as the advancement in software with candidates acquiring new skills. It’s exhilarating getting to know our clients and seeing how they adapt to change. We meet lots of interesting characters in our field and love the energy of the creative scene.
